APPLICATION OF THE NANOSTRUCTURED MANGANESE DIOXIDE (OF THE CRYPTOMELANE TYPE) FOR 237U PRODUCTION BY THE 238U(γ, N) 237U REACTION O. Maslov, M. Gustova, G. Bozhikov, V. Semina, S. Dmitriev Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, Joint Institute for Nuclear Researches, 6, Joliot Curie, Dubna, Moscow region, 141980, RUSSIA; gust@jinr.ru A procedure of separation of 238U and 237U using a nanostructured material, namely hydrated manganese dioxide (of the cryptomelane type), was developed. 237U was prepared by the 238U(γ,n)237U reaction. The parameters of the cryptomelane used for the recoil nuclei collection were defined more precisely. The 237U occurrence in the cryptomelane in the tetravalent state was corroborated. A specific activity of the resulting 237U preparation was 4.5 * 109Bq (mg 238U)–1, with the content of radioactive impurities of <= 10–6Bq Bq–1. Key words: Separation of isotopes, 237-Uranium, Cryptomelane, X-ray diffraction analysis, Cationic exchanger, Valence state. |
